We have created a very exclusive holiday extravangaza, Magicamus, housed in a conducive environment, close to nature, at the brand-new Botany Center of the Singapore Botanical Gardens.
Our programme features the only differentiated-learning English enrichment programme in which assessment is carried out for placement of children in the suitable ability groups and the program material has been developed to suit the different ability groups hence maximizing each child’s potential.
Through the incorporation of the fundamentals of the Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, Cognitive Domain which was completed by a group of educators headed by Benjamin Bloom in 1956, our programme uses the system to conceptualise the various levels of thinking required in every activity, enabling the children to stretch and challenge their thinking by introducing thinking skills such as creative thinking and critical thinking as suited to the needs and requirements of the different ability groups.
Our programme also carries our company's signature holistic approach, weaving in the various elements of language arts like reading (examples are the different types of choral speaking), writing (expository, descriptive, narrative writing and poetry writing), speaking (public speaking) and listening, along with elements of the performing arts through forms like drama and pantomime , in a Standard English environment to ensure that the learning experience will be of relevance to school syllabus and beyond.
As according to our differentiated-learning approach, children will perform tasks suited to their abilities as we have meticulously analysed the difficulty level of every type of language arts task. An example of our detailed programme planning is how in poetry writing, we introduce five types of poetry writing – Free-verse poetry, Couplet, Simplified Haiku, Traditional Haiku and Limerick. Different ability groups in different levels will then undertake the types of poetry writing suited to their ability levels with an appropriate level of guidance. Such attention to detail is also a trademark of our programme and how we sought to maximize each child’s learning potential.
The linguistics tasks are also seamlessly woven into the adventure format of our programme to capture the children’s interest as it is our belief that to unlock the creativity in every child to produce unique pieces of work, there is a need for innovative presentations of the tasks that require completion as it is very important that children enjoy every step of the learning process. Hence, our cast of professional actors will bring to life the land of Magicamus for the children to be fully immersed in the adventures of the programme.
Beyond developing children’s linguistic intelligence, children are also introduced to the fascinating array of flora and fauna at the picturesque Gardens during the course of the programme developing their naturalist intelligence, further enriching the children’s learning experience. Hence, we have weaved in experiential learning into the programme by bringing part of it outdoors and structuring the programme to incorporate the knowledge that children would have gained from the outdoor learning for use in their linguistics tasks.
